More About Affinity
Affinity is a professional creative application for Windows that handles photo editing, vector design, and page layout inside a single program, replacing the three separate Serif apps that previously covered those jobs. Canva, which acquired Serif in 2024, released this unified version at the end of October 2025 and made the full toolset available at no cost. Work is organised into Pixel, Vector, and Layout studios that share one document, so a brochure needing a retouched photograph and a redrawn logo stays in one file rather than moving between programs. Panels and tools can also be rearranged into custom studios and saved or shared, which helps teams standardise how they work. Imports cover PSD, AI, IDML, and DWG files, making it a realistic option for anyone moving away from an Adobe subscription, though InDesign INDD documents must be exported to IDML first and a few Photoshop features do not translate cleanly. Downloading and activating the app requires a free Canva account, and only the Canva AI Studio, with tools such as generative fill and background removal, depends on a paid Canva plan. Hardware demands are modest by professional standards, with Windows 10 or 11 on a 64-bit machine and 4GB of RAM listed as the baseline. One thing worth knowing in advance is that Affinity offers no asset management, so photographers handling large libraries still need a separate cataloguing tool. If your work spans illustration, image editing, and print or digital layout, and you would rather not pay a recurring fee for that combination, Affinity is worth examining closely before you commit to anything else.
